Repentance Prayer for California
We bless your name God. You are our Father in the heavenly realm, we bless your holy name. Your kingdom is upon us. Your will is decreed over us. The pattern of heaven is imprinted on us, as it was in the beginning when you made the heavens and the earth. You created us and made us to be image bearers of your likeness on earth. You remember our forefathers Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and ourselves in an attitude of mercy. You remember us for good and not for evil, for our sake and our children’s sake
Now we declare that in California, we have sinned against you. We repent for violating the commands of heaven and breaking the bonds of our covenant with you. We repent on behalf of our founders, forefathers, explorers, priests, monks, nuns, pastors, missionaries, political leaders, government, systems, residents, land owners and pioneers for lying, robbery, pillaging, slandering, greed, pride, perversion and rebellion. We repent for self idolization, worship of riches, mammon, vanity and striving for fame. We repent for lifting up the banner of pride in our land. We repent for making sports our sabbath praise and raising athletes above your name. We repent for quickening evil, embracing lewdness and disobedience. We repent for dismantling your covenant of Godly family love. We have walked down the path of abominations.
We repent for stripping off our God-given imagery and replacing our identity with a fallen humanity. We repent for being a people who have begun to change their God. We repent for corrupting justice, bribing our government for selfish gain, lobbying for indecency, promoting promiscuity and exposing our children to pornography.
We repent for murdering the innocent, abandoning the indigenous, the orphan, widow, unhoused, and veterans.
We repent for abdicating parenting to our school districts. We repent for trafficking the helpless and imprisoning the voiceless.
We repent for gluttony and the abuse of narcotics.
We repent for elitism, racism and sexism.
We repent for making California a safe haven for death.
We repent for over-harvesting the animals and sea creatures' habitats and polluting the waterways.
We repent for worshipping and making covenants with the waters, the stars, moon and the sun.
We repent for our history of changing the boundary lines within our state to seek after hidden gold.
We repent for dehumanizing, imprisoning and enslaving the first indigenous peoples, immigrants and slaves to obtain wealth and expansion of our state.
We repent for the demolition of the first peoples and their land that caused a root of bitterness to be set up in their hearts, which in turn set curses to be invoked upon the new settlers and the land. Your word says you have known our name and sent your son to die for those who were yet far off from accepting His love. So, we take this time to repent, acknowledge, honour and call by name, the first people in the state of California who we plundered and made virtually extinct.
We repent for the Indian Removal Act of 1830 signed into effect by President Andrew Jackson, which disposed the native people from their land and forced them onto reservations.
We repent for violating your word in (Proverbs 22:28 ESV.) ”Do not move the ancient landmark that your fathers have set.
